REQUIRE ANIMAL SHELTERS TO POST SIGNS ANIMALS DROPPED OFF WILL BE KILLED UNLESS ADOPTED
The Issue
This is very simple request. Many people find animals and drop them off at shelters but what is not evident to the Good Samaritans is that they may be sentencing the animal to death. If the shelter was required to post a sign that animals not adopted will be killed then people would look for other shelters or maybe even keep them.
Another issue is the whole foster process in some areas. For example, the Harris County Animal Shelter requires someone to actually live in Harris County or be an approved animal rescue agency to foster an animal. Today we were 48 hours from a beautiful animal being killed (Watson pictured at our house) just because we did not live in Harris County and could not foster. Fortunately, after spending hours contacting animal rescues and other residents the animal was saved. The general public who might want to foster an animal is being prevented from saving a life just because they don't live in the county where the shelter is located. This is wrong. If the poor animal is about to be executed does it really care where the foster lives?
Perhaps if this catches on in Texas it could grow to the entire USA. This should be a non partisan regulation that could not cost shelters more than $50 a shelter and would save many animals.
