Michael C. Burgess, M.D., is a prominent U.S. politician and physician who has represented Texas's 26th Congressional District since 2003. Born in Denton, Texas, he graduated as valedictorian from The Selwyn School in 1968 and later earned both undergraduate and master's degrees from North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas). He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Additionally, he holds a master's degree in Medical Management from the University of Texas at Dallas and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Public Service from the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center in 2009
