Teachers, Nurses, and Mental Health Professionals for Banning Assault Rifles in Illinois

Teachers, Nurses, and Mental Health Professionals for Banning Assault Rifles in Illinois
Why this petition matters

There have been more than 200 mass shootings in Illinois, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Since the July 4th, 2022 tragedy in Highland Park that shocked the world and captivated media attention there have been five more mass shootings in Illinois. At the same time, firearms continue to exact a high and consistent toll on our City's neighborhoods and families. In memory of those killed and in solidarity with their loved ones and the survivors, we demand a ban on assault rifles.
Who are we? We are the teachers who have become the front line in school shootings. We are the nurses who treat the wounded. We are the mental health professionals who support the bereaved and the traumatized.
We appreciate the efforts of the 56 Representatives who have already signed on to support IL HB 5522. We are calling for at least 15 more cosponsors to ensure this Bill passes.
We love our students, we work tirelessly on behalf of our patients, and we strive to serve the best interest of our clients. If HB 5522 is not passed, we will be forced to organize and escalate our efforts. Our voices will be heard.
Outlaw assault weapons under HB 5522 so that we can return to teaching, treating, and supporting those who put their trust in us as we depend on you to act on your conscience.
