Help Us To Make A Change!
After the events that have occurred with OSHC Camp Australia within local schools in the Ipswich Area, we have discovered that alot of young children are unaware of what to do in a scary situation such as verbal abuse, neglect, physical harm, bullying ect.
We are currently studying Diploma of Community Services and have a strong passion for assisting those who may not have a voice to stand up for themselves!
We have created a program to take to local schools.
MISSION: To teach children of Local School's safety awareness so they can determine the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong regarding personal safety as well as what to do if ever put in this situation. Then to continue on with other schools in the local area.
Program will be based on teaching the children the following topics
- What is safety?
- Stranger Danger
- Personal Space
- Speaking Up
All sessions will have activity sheets for the kids to participate as well as videos and and games, all child friendly and age appropriate.
Our mascot Penny the Leopard will teach the kids the 3 important steps to keep safe!
She will use her paws and teach the kids to put their paws up in signs of danger.
- STOP. THINK "Am I comfortable with this? Am I in danger?"
- PUT YOUR PAWS UP and say "STOP I don't like it!" In a firm voice!
- Find someone you trust to speak up
Penny will also use phrases like
"That was Pawsome!"
"Round of a paws!"
as well as teaching the kids how to "Keep your paws to yourself"
Each child who participates in this program will receive a certificate of completion with their name and class included as well as a small gift.
We feel by doing this, it will benefit all children in being confident to speak up, knowing the risks and how to handle it without fear of judgement or consequence. Depression and Suicide is a major problem in young peoples lives these days and it something that most don't like to speak about but by participating in this program you can have a peace of mind knowing that your child is capable of speaking up and not suffering in silence and have a basic understanding of personal safety.
This program will be no cost to the parents of participants or to the school, we will raise all funds needed to run this successfully and seek government funding once implemented to be able to continue this as it is a very important subject that doesn't get taught enough! If trial is successful, we will be able to continue on with a Grade 5 & 6 Program and a High School program which will incorporate suicide prevention, cyber bullying, etc.
This petition will help us to show that parents & the community are on board with this idea and want to see it happen!
Child abuse needs to stop, and it takes a whole community to band together and make a stand! No child should ever live in fear or suffer in silence!
If you agree with us and would like to see this program implemented in schools then please sign this petition and help us to help those in need!
