The Issue

The College of New Jersey Student Government is urging the New Jersey State Legislature to continue its investment in higher education through an increase of state appropriations to The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) to levels that reflect the institution’s value and needs.

New Jersey's State Legislature is currently reviewing the budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026, and TCNJ Student Government needs YOUR help in ensuring that higher education remains a top priority.

The College of New Jersey provides students with access to a high-quality education at an affordable price, ultimately contributing to New Jersey’s economy, workforce development, and civic life. TCNJ is a premier public institution that has consistently been awarded the title of #1 public college from Maine to Maryland with a 94% in-state enrollment and all 21 counties represented in each entering class. TCNJ maintains a 91% retention rate, 13:1 faculty to student ratio, more than 200 student organizations, and is the 9th highest four-year graduation rate among the nation’s four-year public universities.

The impact of disinvestment may affect our academic programs, student services, infrastructure maintenance while potentially increasing tuition, eliminating programs or limiting student scholarship at a time when federal support is uncertain and unstable.

The State of New Jersey has an obligation to adequately fund its public colleges to ensure equitable access to education and to support the future prosperity of the state.

Join TCNJ Student Government in urging the New Jersey State Legislature to continue its investment in higher education through an increase of state appropriations to The College of New Jersey. This investment is essential to preserve the excellence, affordability, and opportunity that define TCNJ — and to secure our institution's strength for the future!

Best regards, Aria Chalileh (TCNJ Student Government Vice President for Governmental Affairs)
