Home Rule is the governance of a region by its own citizens - aka democracy. Santa Fe and Albuquerque recently switched from Council-Manager to Home Rule. Municipalities across the country are implementing it as protection from State & Federal regulations that are inconsistent with local ethics and goals.
      Home Rule allows us to re-write the county charter. (Modern campaign finance rules, citizen referendums, recall of corrupt politicians, etc.) It also allows us to pass living wage and other worker protection ordinances.
       The first step in the process to get Home Rule is to collect signatures from 5% local voters. Taos is home to 35,000 of us.
