Patricia Schulz CEDAW rapporteur noted the Harding Clark report (#symphysiotomy) was received very critically. Patricia Schulz speaking this week in Geneva was critical of the 'technocratic approach' of the state to symphysiotomy; and calls for investigation into role of various actors. "There has been no proper investigation into symphysiotomy, no prosecutions, no effective remedy" she said. The UN tells Ireland it cannot argue "without having asked the women ... what violations they have experienced". Ms Schulz: "it (the government response to #symphysiotomy) confirms the technocratic approach to what I see as a human rights issue". Ms Schulz calls for timely independent investigations, in line with international human rights standards, into Magdalenes & symphysiotomy.
