Koalas and other endangered species like the Powerful Owl need Woogaroo Forest to survive.

But they are under threat from four proposed developments within the borders of Woogaroo Forest. Each one of these developments will have a devastating effect on the wildlife.

The biggest of the four is a proposed Stockland development for more than 1800 houses, known as Springview Estate Villages 2 and 3.

Woogaroo Forest is a sanctuary for wildlife, providing essential habitat for iconic species like Koalas, Echidnas, Platypus, Frilled-neck Lizard and Gliders, along with more than 130 bird species — including the majestic Powerful Owl

These developments are being assessed under rare and outdated planning instruments from last century called Development Control Plans. The Ipswich City Council and the Queensland Government are hiding behind these plans to wash their hands of responsibility and are refusing to show leadership to stop the bulldozers.

However the developments must still be assessed by the Commonwealth Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC) 1999.

We are calling on Minister Murray Watt to ensure the development is thoroughly assessed against this Act and to reject these devastating proposals.

Woogaroo Forest is not only important habitat in itself. It provides a critical corridor for remnant habitat and green corridors throughout the area. If it is lost, the landscape will become more fragmented and multiple Koala colonies will become isolated and eventually perish.

This forest is more than 450 hectares. Yet in 5 years and at a partial cost of at least $4.48M, the Queensland Government's Koala Habitat Restoration Partnership Program restored just 180 hectares of habitat and assisted 250 hectares to be regenerated.

We know Queenslanders need homes but we have to build up, not out. It's time we stand up to habitat wrecking development in South East Queensland!

Please save Woogaroo Forest!
