Holiday Inn is seeking to place around 200 single male asylum seekers in the Tamworth town centre Holiday Inn Express.

We object to the use of the hotel because of the negative impact this will have on our town centre economy. We all want to help those in need, but other sites should be used that don’t impact our town centre economy. 

Tamworth is to host numerous outdoor events over the year, including concerts, family sports events, fireworks displays, and a Commonwealth Games live site. This is on top of being home to many tourist attractions like Snow Dome and Tamworth Castle.

It is essential that now, and going forward, Tamworth has sufficient hotel space for visitors and families coming to our wonderful town.

Tamworth is a town working to build its visitor economy and its appeal as a destination for visitors.

This move by Holiday Inn goes against that aim and will damage Tamworth’s economy. Other sites, ones that are not so important to our town centre economy, should be used first.

We all want to help those in need, but we oppose the use of Tamworth town centre Holiday Inn Express and ask a different site is used.
