Stop a further 141 houses being built on Coton Lane

The Issue

Back at the beginning of 2019 planning application number 0020/2019 was submitted to Tamworth Borough Council to build 163 houses on the lower part of Coton Lane near to Helmingham and the Fox public house. After strong opposition by residents the application has now been revised to 141 homes.

In the Tamworth local plan the site is identified as a site suitable for housing development up to 77 homes. Whilst in an idea world no houses would need to be built on the site it is generally accepted that some development will take place - but that development needs to comply with the local plan and be both in keeping with the local area and not to completely destroy the character and appearance of Coton Lane.

We urge Tamworth Borough Council planning committee to refuse this application.

Our reasons for objecting to the application are (but not limited to):

1. Housing density is wrong. The local plan states the site is identified as suitable for up to 77 homes.

2. Risk of flooding to both the new homes proposed, and more importantly existing homes in the area.

3. The removal of the recently constructed flood defence system and replaced with a metal fence.

4. The proposed housing type is not in keeping with the local area.

5. The road layout on the site does not make sufficient provision for the movement of large vehicles such as refuse wagons, delivery vehicles and emergency services.

6. Too many private drives that increase the likelihood of neighbourhood disputes.

7. Insufficient parking on site.

8. The impact of the proposals on the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians using Coton Lane.
