Tama na, Sobra na! Fix North Caloocan Traffic Now!
The Issue
I am a concerned resident of North Caloocan, and like thousands of you, I am tired of spending hours stuck in traffic every single day. This is no longer just an inconvenience, it has become a daily crisis that affects all of us.
T. Samson Road is our main route of commute going in and out of North Caloocan. Everyone living in Bagumbong, Deparo, Vicas, Bankers, and even Bagong Silang uses this road to get to Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City, and beyond. It used to take just 10 minutes to reach Mindanao Avenue. Now it takes an hour or even more.
The problem is simple: T. Samson Road is only 2 lanes wide, yet it now carries thousands of vehicles every day — private cars, motorcycles, jeepneys, tricycles, buses, and large container trucks from nearby factories. The road simply cannot handle this much traffic anymore. We need infrastructure that can accommodate all of this, not just for today but for the future growth of our city.
On most days, morning traffic starts as early as 5 AM and lasts until 10 AM, sometimes all day southbound. In the evening, northbound traffic starts at 5 PM and only eases close to midnight. Traversing T. Samson Road can take up to an hour for a distance that should only take minutes.
This is not just about traffic. It is about productivity, safety, and quality of life. Every hour wasted on the road is an hour away from our jobs, our families, and our rest. It also slows down businesses, deliveries, and essential services that rely on these roads, hurting the local economy.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR
We are calling on the Caloocan LGU, DPWH, and the national government to prioritize the following:
- Widen T. Samson Road to at least 4 lanes from Deparo all the way to General Luis
- Widen General Luis Road from Mindanao Avenue to Diamond Road to at least 6 lanes to handle trucks, buses, and heavy traffic from both Caloocan and Quezon City
- Upgrade and redesign major intersections into proper signalized intersections with dedicated turning lanes or, where possible, flyovers/underpasses for continuous flow of traffic at:
• Mindanao Avenue x General Luis
• P. Dela Cruz x General Luis
• Diamond Road x General Luis
• Llano Road x Deparo Road
Consider extending Mindanao Avenue all the way to Llano Road, Deparo, and Bagumbong to provide a much-needed alternative route for residents and reduce the dependency on T. Samson Road
Improve traffic management and pedestrian infrastructure to keep vehicles moving efficiently and protect residents crossing these busy roads
WHY THIS MATTERS
This is our main route of commute. If nothing is done, traffic will only get worse as our population grows.
Widening these roads, improving the intersections, and creating an alternate route via a Mindanao Avenue extension will:
- Cut travel time from one hour back to 10–15 minutes
- Make roads safer for drivers, commuters, and pedestrians
- Allow trucks and buses to move without blocking smaller vehicles
- Reduce fuel costs and stress caused by long commutes
- Boost productivity and help businesses move goods faster
- Give families back hours of their day that are currently lost on the road
Mass transport projects will take years to complete, but road widening, intersection redesigns, and route extensions are solutions that can be implemented sooner and will bring immediate relief to thousands of daily commuters.
Please sign this petition and share it with your neighbors, friends, and family. The more voices we gather, the more our leaders will see that this is urgent. North Caloocan deserves better roads, safer travel, and shorter commutes not years from now, but starting today.
