Take greater action against vaping in CNUSD
The Issue
Ever since its introduction in 1963, vaping has become a popular alternative to the common cigarette. Because of its ease of access, people below the age of 18 have become the main demographic for its use, and it has spread towards one of the most important establishments in any nation, education.
I have attended both Santiago and Eleanor Roosevelt high schools, and the damage that vape pens and zyns have done to the common student is absurd considering how prevalent the pens have been since the early 2000s. Vaping has established itself as one of the mainstay high-school campus commodities, and there is clearly not enough being done to keep its damage from spreading.
For one, CNUSD has not made nearly enough of statement against tobacco usage in general. A quick search on the internet only brings up about 2 articles that directly oppose the usage of e-cigarettes, and frankly, this information should not be up to the student or parent to search up. The schools should be making a bigger fuss over the usage of vape pens due to their usage on campus, particularly in bathrooms. Throughout my four years at Eleanor Roosevelt and Santiago high school, there has never been a day I have seen every single one of the bathrooms open. This is a decision made by the schools in an attempt to prevent people from vaping in there, but if the issue has created a circumvention that directly harms other rule-abiding students, there should be a bigger effort towards the main issue at heart. Help me make more noise about this issue by signing the petition, we may have better conditions for the students that come after we graduate.
