Take Back Our Streets: Let's Stop Sign Pollution in Richmond Hill

The Issue

Petition Summary:
Our city is drowning in a sea of illegal lawn signs, pole posters, and sticker ads. It's time to take back our streets from this visual pollution. We, the undersigned, demand immediate enforcement and bylaw reform to hold advertisers accountable.

The Problem:
Richmond Hill residents are sick of signs. From hydro poles to garbage bins, unregulated advertising signage is destroying the character of our neighbourhoods, cluttering public property, and polluting our environment.

The Solution:
We, the people, are calling on the City of Richmond Hill to:

Enforce a verifiable phone number registration for all public signs.
Set a strict 4-sign maximum per advertiser, with a valid permit for each.
Impose an automatic $450 fine per illegal sign on municipal property.
Ban any signage on street signs, mailboxes, hydro poles, and public bins.
Introduce an escalating penalty system:

Fine → Repeat Fine → 12-month ban → 24-month ban → Permanent ban
This issue affects our public safety, community pride, and environmental well-being.

We fully support Sick of Signs (SOS)—a Richmond Hill grassroots organization led by community champion David Silverman—on their mission to protect our neighborhoods from further decay.
