  1. Increase Garda numbers
  2. Improve Garda terms and conditions to encourage recruitment and retention of Gardai
  3. Re-open rural Garda stations
  4. Increase residential addiction services
  5. Increase emergency refuge spaces for victims of domestic violence

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO ADDRESS CRIME AND PUBLIC DISORDER?

Here are some suggestions for addressing law and order issues in a community.

1. Strengthen community policing: Increase the presence and visibility of law enforcement in the community. Encourage positive interactions between Gardai and residents through events, outreach, and problem-solving partnerships.

2. Promote crime prevention programs: Promote crime prevention initiatives like neighbourhood watch, home security assessments, and youth development programs. Engage the community in identifying problems and solutions.

3. Address underlying social issues: Look at the root causes of crime and disorder, such as poverty, lack of economic opportunities, substance abuse, and mental health challenges. Invest in social services, affordable housing, job training, and community programs to address these issues.

4. Enhance community engagement: Facilitate regular meetings and dialogues between residents, community leaders, and government agencies. Encourage residents to get involved in local decision-making and problem-solving.

5. Strengthen community institutions: Support and empower local schools, religious organisations, civic groups, and other community institutions to play a role in promoting positive values and behaviours.

6. Implement restorative justice approaches: Consider alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation and restorative justice, to address minor offenses and conflicts within the community.

7. Improve physical environment: Address issues like dilapidated buildings, poor lighting, and overgrown vegetation that can contribute to a sense of disorder and insecurity.

8. Utilise data and technology: Collect and analyse data on crime patterns and community concerns, and use technology like surveillance cameras and predictive policing tools to enhance law enforcement efforts.
