Please give Duel Masters Play's a global release!
The Issue
Duel Masters Play's was released exclusively in Japan in December of 2019. There is yet to be any announcement of a global release. We need to show Tomy, Wizards and DeNA that there is demand for this game outside of Japan.
For those who don't know, Duel Masters was a TCG that ran in the US from 2004-2006 and was unfortunately cut short due to a variety of reasons. In 2012, a rebrand under the name Kaijudo was attempted, but was also cut short due to a plethora of reasons. The game has still been going strong in Japan since 2001 however, and is even the #2 card game in Japan.
In Duel Masters Play's you build a deck of 40 cards using cards from 5 different civilizations: Fire, Nature, Light, Water and Darkness. You can use any combination of civilizations that you want, and up to 4 copies of each card.
Players start with 5 shields and the goal is to break all of your opponents shields and deliver a direct attack to win. If one of your shields is broken and it has the "Shield Trigger" keyword, you can cast it for free immediately. Each turn you can choose one of your cards in your hand to be put into your mana zone to pay for creatures, spells and abilities.
Each card has a mana cost, and as long as you've put a card of that civilization in your mana zone (unlocked the civilization so to speak), and have enough untapped mana you can play that card.
You can also evolve creatures and use God cards that can combine to become stronger creatures with devastating effects. Later sets even have multi-civilization cards that are some of the most powerful in the game so far.
As far as collection goes, there are Premium framed cards with a gold border to collect and incredibly rare Secret SRs with special alternate art for that SR. There are also sleeves, playmats (to customize your deck and battle zone) and clothing/hairstyles to unlock for your player avatar.
Also worth noting, is the crafting system. You can dust any card except for basics and promos, with Premium cards giving more crafting points. You can then use these points to craft any card you want.
Duel Masters Play's (DMP) is an excellent entry point to reintroduce this game to Western audiences, with streamlined gameplay and a diverse card pool, including many cards not originally released in the paper game, made specifically for this game!
Signing will hopefully show the developers and Wizards of the Coast that there is a demand and fanbase for this franchise. Thanks for your support, and please share with anyone you know that might be interested in Japanese TCGs!
