MARRIAGE VISA TAIWAN, HELP REUNITE ENGAGE COUPLES AFFECTED BY BORDER RESTRICTION POLICY

The Issue

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan has adopted decisive provisions that help prevent Taiwanese society from the consequences of the spread of COVID-19.
One of the most significant measures is the closure of its border towards foreigners who do not hold residency in the country.
It is without doubt that preventing international travels has contributed considerably to the success of Taiwan’s strategy to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19. However, this measure has incurred enormous burden on international couples who have been separated and not yet able to reunite since the closure of the border.
Over these two years, the pandemic has been gradually gotten under control in Taiwan. Taiwan has proved that its quarantine system is effective in managing and curbing the risk of accepting arrivals. Vaccines are relatively easier to obtain and vaccination rate in Taiwan has achieved 72% of full coverage. As a result, foreign students and business travellers with special permissions are allowed to enter. Yet, foreigners who have been waiting to visit their partners in Taiwan are still barred entry after two years’ time.
Therefore, we are earnestly requesting for Taiwanese government to allow entry for foreigners who are in a relationship and intend to get married with Taiwanese nationals, so that we will be able to get married and start our lives in Taiwan.
Due to the COVID-19, our marriage plans are forced to be postponed and we have already been suffering from the pain of being separated from our partners for two years. We don’t see the end of the pandemic and restriction on foreigners since the virus is not likely to disappear any time soon.
● We want to enter Taiwan and get married with our partners.
● We want to stay in Taiwan and contribute to the society.
● We are willing to undergo quarantine and take self-paid COVID tests.

We do not have the intention to put Taiwan in any risk, all we hope is just being able to reunite with our partners and get married.
Give us a chance to build a future for us, for our afamilies, and for Taiwan.
