Bring Back Taco Bell’s 1960’s Bellburger!
The Issue
The Bell Beefer was a hamburger bun based meal on Taco Bell's menu from the mid 1970s to the mid 1990s as an update to the Bellburger. Created to combat items offered at hamburger chains, the Bell Beefer was a bun with meat, diced onions, shredded lettuce and mild border sauce. A Bell Beefer Supreme was also offered which added diced tomatoes and grated cheese. More like a sloppy joe than a hamburger, it was well-liked early on and declined in popularity during the late 1980s.
Hamburgers are sold at fast-food restaurants, diners, and specialty high-end restaurants (where burgers may sell for several times the cost of a fast-food burger, but may be one of the cheaper options on the menu). There are MANY international and regional variations of the hamburger. The Bellburger is a prime example of that!
The hamburger's international popularity demonstrates a large globalization of food. The hamburger has spread from continent to continent perhaps because it matches familiar elements in different culinary cultures. Which is exactly what the Bell Burger displays!
Most of us have had the pleasure of consuming a sloppy joe. I’ve personally never came across anyone who didn’t like a freshly made sloppy joe. Can you imagine the thousands of people who have never even tried one? I’ve just realized we haven't had the opportunity to order one for yourself at any fast food restaurant and I guarantee my little family would order one each visit.
Would you order a Bellburger with a side of nacho fries? Or you simply remember tackling a Bell Beefer back in the day and would like to see it back. Sign this petition and watch the love for sloppy joes grow along with Taco Bell’s menu!
