The Issue

Inflation is gripping San Antonio, Texas, driving up the cost of living and putting immense pressure on families across our community. From surging rent prices to inflated grocery bills and skyrocketing healthcare costs, residents are forced to make painful decisions just to get by. A city once known for its affordability and rich cultural identity now teeters on the edge of crisis.

Rent increases are among the most urgent concerns. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the average cost of renting an apartment in San Antonio has jumped more than 15% in just the past year. For many, this means choosing between paying rent and buying food, medicine, or other essentials. The financial strain is unsustainable.

Grocery costs are also rising steeply. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a 4.6% national increase in food prices over the past year, a trend mirrored in San Antonio's stores. Basic items—once staples of everyday life, quickly become out of reach for lower- and middle-income families.

Healthcare access is also deteriorating. The Texas Medical Association confirms that healthcare expenses across the state have risen sharply, putting routine medical care and vital treatments beyond the reach of thousands of San Antonians.

We must demand action. Local leaders have the tools to ease these burdens through policies that stabilize housing, curb predatory rent hikes, expand food assistance programs, and make healthcare more affordable and accessible.

Stand with us. Sign this petition and urge our representatives to prioritize policies that restore economic dignity, protect vulnerable residents, and keep San Antonio a place where every family can afford to live, work, and thrive.
