Table Manners: Stop Staring, Respect How People Eat

Table Manners: Stop Staring, Respect How People Eat
The Issue
For many people, eating differently is necessary. This includes individuals with OCD, autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, dysphagia, gastroparesis, mobility challenges, limb differences, or other medical, neurological, or sensory conditions. Millions of people use adapted utensils or have unique eating habits, yet restaurants often lack awareness or guidance to accommodate them.
I am asking the UK Government and the Equality and Human Rights Commission to update guidance under the Equality Act 2010 so that restaurants understand and support alternative eating tools and practices, and recognise that staring or discourtesy is a barrier to accessibility.
I started this petition because I am diagnosed with OCD and eat my food with tongs. Through TikTok, I’ve gone viral and helped millions feel seen, understood, and less alone. That experience inspired me to start the Table Manners Movement, which empowers people to eat confidently in public, normalises diverse eating habits, and reminds observers that staring is a choice.
By signing this petition, you’re helping make restaurants more inclusive, welcoming, and respectful, showing that everyone deserves dignity at the table, no matter how they eat.
Thanks so much
