Dear all, Fantastic news, the Architect has pulled the 14- Storey Tower Block Monstrosity planned for Old Town thanks to my petition! I have had congratulations from MPs Nadine Watts and Robert Buckland. I will be talking on BBC Radio Wiltshire tomorrow to discuss more about this. The petition has been an overall success. However, according to the architect, the Adver did mess up in the handling of this by publishing concept images. The architect has been tasked by its client to build apartments (that is unfortunately, definitely going to happen - I did ask about business use), at the Adver site. Swindon Regeneration Ltd have, rather worringly demanded that the flats ALL have VIEWS. Surely the only way of obtaining the required views, is to build upwards? I am skeptical about this. I believe a smaller tower block may be proposed, so the #oldtowntower saga is not fully over yet. They need to fit as many flats in as possible in a tight space, with views, to get maximum returns. (128 total). The Adver is selling the space for residential value only, not business value. This is a shame. We are set for more flats and limited parking. :( Can't we stop this? But the concern I have is that they must all have views. Surely, at being just five stories, they won't get the views of Christ Church? Will discuss more on the radio tomorrow. The Adver has handled this dreadfully, but so has the architect. It has outraged the people of Old Town and even people across the world. It's legacy will be flats. Great. The whole project is a sham and we need to keep fighting and keeping a close look on the plans. We don't want a reduced 10-storey tower submitted under our noses. With regards to the Saving Old Town Beer, if anyone knows of any brewers that could help with this, get in touch. But we are not totally out of the woods just yet. Many thanks again, and good work Swindon. Shame we are going to have more flats. :( Neil Robinson, 27. Old Town.
