Dear Old Town Tower Petition Supporters, Thank you for your support, this petition has rocketed sky fold at a rate of 1,000 signatures a day, that is incredible. We are now well on our way towards 2,500, and beyond. Keep the momentum up, like and share this petition! Let's get thousands and thousands. Keep spreading the word, print off posters for your shops and homes, and distribute fliers. We cannot allow Old Town to be defaced with a mini-skyscraper. It is disgraceful. What about the parking, the traffic and the beautiful views which would all get ruined. It is disgraceful that The Swindon Advertiser only care about selling off its land and moving on and the fact remains that its NOT reporting the brewing anger among locals against the tower. We need to keep Old Town as great as it already is. There is nothing wrong with it! It's great and one of the best, most desirable areas in the town to live, work, socialise and play. Here are a selection of good comments I have received: "Old Town is a fantastic place to live with lots of potential for new business but this proposed tower block is ill conceived and Swindon should be investing in development of existing historic buildings such as the mechanics institute, Lydiard Park and not building tower blocks. Abbie Mercer, Swindon" "I love Old Town just the way it is xx Claire Hedges, Shaw" "I am signing because Swindon council have ruined Swindon history over the years by allowing the destruction of such buildings as the Goddards mansion, they should spend this money on restoring the Locarno and mechanics institute. Stop lining your own pockets and think of Swindon for a change!!!! trish hughes, Swindon" The Architect, Gary Madgwick of Quad Group hasn't got a clue. Not only has he been convicted of fraud, (£200,000), he also stated that Old Town was "the poor neighbour of New Town" - absolute rubbish! Old Town is seen as the nicer most desirable area of Swindon! Outrageous claim! He also said that "Wouldn't it be nice to see a tower next to Christ Church?"..... NO!!! NO!!! NO!!! Keep your eyes peeled onto Swindon 24, the new reliable news source in the town, not the Adver. An article has just gone live on there which is well worth a read about the architect. See below. And do NOT buy or trust the Adver! http://www.swindon24.co.uk/2016/03/man-convicted-of-fraud-set-to-lead-old-town-regeneration-project/ Disgusting. Let's keep fighting against this development. Share share share! Sam FM want to speak to me about the petition so listen out for that over the next few days. And keep liking and sharing! and signing! Lobby your MPS, print off posters and get all your friends to sign the petition. The Swindon Advertiser is no longer the paper for the people of Swindon. Neil Robinson, 27, Proud Old Town Resident.
