Thank you for standing with us. Your voices have made a difference, and the file continues to move.
Since our last update, the record has grown significantly.
The Toronto Sun published on August 30 describing 21 Windermere Avenue as a chemical wasteland, with photographs of demolition activity taken from the street. TCHC did not dispute the contamination figures. In the same article, TCHC publicly committed to resolving community concerns -- without naming the concerns, the steps, the responsible officer, or a timeline.
The City's own Chief Building Official confirmed in writing on August 24 that demolition proceeded at this site without any permit having been issued. Bagged asbestos-containing materials have since been confirmed sitting on the open contaminated site adjacent to occupied homes on Coe Hill Drive.
We have written to City Manager Paul Johnson requesting his direct intervention. His office has acknowledged receipt. We are awaiting a substantive response.
The Stage 2 Actions Report -- the mandatory Council-directed financial, environmental, and alternatives assessment that must precede any redevelopment -- remains unproduced and without a confirmed timeline. We continue to press for it at every level.
