So far our petition has been ignored by Sutton Council!
We believe that residents deserve to be consulted before schemes are implemented and now that the bus gate has had time to ‘bed in’ we are seeing the reality of the problems it is causing!
We have had meetings, sent thousands of emails, photos, videos and an unbiased survey to our councillors showing the increased traffic, speeding, danger to cyclists and pedestrians, noise and pollution that the bus gate has created along roads that were quiet prior to its implementation - the opposite of what the scheme was intended to achieve!
Traffic backs up frequently and some cars do U-turns, reverse or slam there breaks on to avoid going through the bus gate whilst others just drive through it obliviously, as the signage is so poor!
As we’ve said before we know that Browning Avenue needed something, but shutting off one end of it with a fine generating camera/bus gate is not the answer!
There has already been a serious accident right by the bus gate and two minor accidents along one of the roads that now takes a huge amount of cars, that would previously have filtered out along several roads.
Residents are absolutely fed up with being ignored and are raising money for legal fees, in the hope that Sutton Council will finally listen to the people that live here and remove the bus gate!
Please find the link below to the just giving page that has been set up for this to go ahead.
If you are in a position to donate that would be great!
