The Issue

As a representative of a small businesses in our coastal town, this petition seeks to shift the timeline for the planned boat ramp construction project. An endeavor of this magnitude during the peak tourist season threatens not only operations of our local businesses, but it also impacts beloved summer activities in our community.

Every summer, hundreds of families from our neighboring towns and even across the country flood our beaches, restaurants, and retail shops, infusing life and profitability into our small businesses. A construction project scheduled during such a crucial period risks the livelihoods of these enterprises and the rich experiences of our summer visitors which have already been impacted by this most recent hurricane season.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) states that "seasonal businesses are particularly sensitive to seasonal fluctuations in revenue and operating income" (SBA report, 2019). As such, it is essential for us to preserve the summer tourist season in our town.

In light of these concerns, it is urged that the boat ramp construction project is postponed until the end of the summer season. Currently projected to take place May 1- July 31, 2025. This not only supports business continuity but will also maintain the charm of our summers that our frequent visitors look forward to every year.

Please sign this petition to express your support and draw the local government's attention to this pressing matter.
