Sustain Arts Funding in Fulton County, GA!
The Issue
2024 arts funding in Fulton County is on the chopping block!
Proposed cuts will impact over 125 arts organizations and artists in every corner of Fulton County. These artists and arts organizations already struggle because Georgia ranks 50th in the nation for arts funding, spending only 14 cents per Georgia citizen each year on the arts.
Arts Funding was increased in 2023
In 2023, through the hard work of David Manuel, the Fulton County arts staff, and the arts council, $1.5 million dollars of support was added for arts funding, bringing Fulton County's total disbursement to 125 arts organizations and artists to $3 million dollars.
Now, Fulton County is considering reducing arts funding in 2024.
We must act now! Sign this petition to let the Board of Commissioners know that arts funding should be sustained.
Atlanta is the cultural capital of the south.
Arts breathe vibrancy into urban spaces. They celebrate diversity, provoke thought, inspire change, break down barriers, and foster a sense of shared identity and belonging.
For too long, Atlanta’s artistic community has operated on a scarcity model.
The lack of funding hinders our individual and collective abilities to serve deeply, fully embody our missions, innovate despite the risk of failure, and reach the full potential of the talented artists with whom we work.
The pandemic exacerbated this situation. If we are to continue to be the cultural capital of the South, we must invest in the arts.
