No other country slaughters its wildlife in the numbers Australia does for just pet food. In Tasmania we are an island state, where wallabies perform an important function in maintaining the environment, reducing fire load and providing an important part of the food chain for endangered animals such as Tasmanian Devils, Tiger Quolls, Eastern Quolls (made extinct in the rest of Australia), Wedgetail Eagles and other birds of prey. Yet they are fenced out, run over, poisoned, shot for 'fun' and for fur and pet food. The count of animals killed is extremely arbitrary and does not include babies ripped from their dead mothers pouches and killed. Nor does it include the many thousands run over or shot by so called recreational shooters. It does not have any moratorium times or times for breeding season. Now the government through research NOT involving independent bodies says let's increase it from the already disgusting amount of 500000+ animals, to at least another 150000+. It's time to stop this wholesale rape of our natural environment just to feed the greed of others. Stand up and say NO MORE for the sake of all other animals in the Web of life, including us and our future generations.
