The Issue

As a student at Leonardtown High School, I have always felt safe and supported on our campus. However, I am deeply concerned about the recent formation of a Turning Point USA chapter at our school. While I believe in the importance of free speech and diverse perspectives, it's vital that all students feel safe and included in their learning environment. Unfortunately, Turning Point USA has a history of creating division and targeting students at other schools. This is not the environment we strive to have at Leonardtown High, and I don't want anyone here to feel marginalized or unsafe because of a club on campus.

Turning Point USA is known for advocating positions that can be polarizing and controversial, which at times has led to a culture of division and harassment. Reports from other schools which have hosted this club document incidents where students were targeted because of their beliefs, creating an intimidating and hostile environment.

Our school should be a place where every student feels respected, included, and secure—not an arena for polarizing political activism. The administration has the power to ensure Leonardtown High remains a supportive and inclusive place for everyone by suspending the Turning Point USA club on our campus. This action would be a step towards guaranteeing that every student here continues to have a safe learning environment, free from fear of division or harassment.

I call upon Leonardtown High’s administration to prioritize student safety and unity. We need to prevent any escalation of division and ensure that respect and inclusion remain core values at our school. Please join me in signing this petition to urge the school administration to suspend the Turning Point USA club and protect every student's right to a safe and harmonious educational space. Your signature can help make a difference.
