Suspend the SMNI Broadcasting of 'Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa' for Red Tagging

Suspend the SMNI Broadcasting of 'Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa' for Red Tagging
The Issue
We are deeply concerned about the program 'Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa', aired by SMNI. This program has been involved in several incidents of red-tagging and making death threats on air.
According to a news article by GMA News, SMNI broke its pledge to stop airing President Duterte’s threats. The program has been used as a platform to spread fake news, red-tagging, and grave threats against individuals. In an episode of the program, former President Duterte allegedly issued a death threat against Rep. France Castro, whom he accused of being a member of the New People’s Army. This is a clear violation of journalism standards and other existing laws.
These actions not only violate journalistic ethics but also pose a threat to those who are unjustly targeted. The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has a responsibility to ensure that all broadcasted content adheres to standards of truth, fairness, and respect for human rights.
The publication of false news and grave threats are not covered by free speech. The privilege of being able to broadcast programs are also a PRIVILEGE and not a right.
We urge the Chairperson Lala Sotto-Antonio of MTRCB to take immediate action by suspending this program until a thorough investigation is conducted into these allegations.
This is not just about one show; it's about setting a precedent that irresponsible broadcasting will not be tolerated in our society. Please sign this petition to support our call for accountability in media broadcasting.
