Investigate CSA Inquiry Over Survivor Testimony Disappearance

The Issue

We the undersigned survivors, whistleblowers, child protection professionals and members of the general public call upon the Home Affairs Select Committee to bring Justice Lowell Goddard to account about the ‘instant and permanent deletion’ of survivor evidence at the time of a change in the Inquiry website between the dates of 14th September and 2nd October 2015.

We question the quality and management of the Inquiry team and ask;

·        why there was no engagement by the Inquiry with the survivor evidence at the time of presentation; recognising that the content of the information could concern children and survivors currently at risk of harm?

·        why no back-up system was in place to secure survivor evidence - in contravention of government recommendations on safe IT practice, data backup and recovery policy?

·        whether the commissioning of the website was at fault and whether the site was hacked?

·        why this failure remained unnoticed for such a lengthy period of time and took two weeks to bring to the attention of survivors?

We condemn calls for survivors to re-input their information online and call on the Committee and the Inquiry to warn survivors not to input information until a full inquiry has been conducted and can assure the security of their information. Survivors need guarantees that the Child Sex Abuse Inquiry is a "safe place".

sincerely
