The Nigerian Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) 2018 found that 9 percent of women aged 15 to 49 had suffered sexual assault at least once in their lifetime and 31% had experienced physical violence.

We believe the number could be higher if the Nigerian Police Force provides safe passage for victims to report without being subject to further abuse.

We're calling on the Nigerian Police Force and The National Human Rights Commission to take action immediately in providing safe passage for victims of sexual and gender-based violence to safely and anonymously report cases to the authorities.
