Norbury park sawmill
Norbury park sawmill
The Issue
Norbury Park Sawmill is due to close. Surrey County Council together with Surrey Wildlife Trust have decided that that the sawmill is no longer a viable business, despite growing by two and a half times over the last two years and with a full order book. The sawmill is located within Norbury Park, Surrey which is owned by the Council, with Surrey Wildlife Trust operating the mill on their behalf.
The sawmill is an important local amenity, providing full employment to a dedicated highly skilled team. As well as supporting a large volunteer group, the sawmill also offers work experience for school children and for those with learning difficulties.
The sawmill uses trees from within the UK and produces a wide range of countryside furniture, benches, signage, mostly to public organisations including Surrey County Council!
