The Issue

While walking to school one morning in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City, I was alarmed to see children playing near a pile of unsegregated garbage. It broke my heart to witness such hazardous conditions that not only threaten their health but also pose significant safety risks. This personal experience has compelled me to take a stand and address the urgent need for an improved waste management system in our community.

Barangay Kasambagan, like many bustling areas in Cebu City, is experiencing a growing waste problem. According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Philippines generates about 40,000 tons of solid waste daily, with only a portion of it being properly segregated. Our barangay contributes to this staggering amount, and without effective waste segregation practices, we are compromising our community's well-being and the environment's health.

Implementing a proper waste segregation system in Barangay Kasambagan could have numerous benefits. Not only would it reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, but it would also help in recycling and reusing materials, conserve essential resources, and decrease pollution levels. Moreover, segregating waste at the source can significantly reduce the health risks associated with unmanaged waste, protecting vulnerable community members, especially children, from exposure to hazardous materials.

I urge our local government, led by Barangay Captain Franklyn Ong., to prioritize waste segregation initiatives. By providing resources such as segregated waste bins in public areas, conducting awareness campaigns, and enforcing local ordinances, we can encourage residents to sort their waste effectively. These initiatives can be supported by regular monitoring and collaboration with local NGOs that specialize in waste management.

Together, we have the power to transform Barangay Kasambagan into a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable community for everyone. Stand with me as we advocate for healthier living conditions and environmental protection. Please sign this petition to support the implementation of a comprehensive waste segregation system in Barangay Kasambagan. Your signature is a step towards securing a brighter, cleaner future for all of us. Let's take action now!
