The Town of Mendon has put a Moratorium on AirBnB/ "VRBO" Vacation Rentals by Owner. The Town prides itself on its "residential character", but seemingly ignores the Agricultural Protection economic uses mandate of the Town Board's Comprehensive Plan adopted February 2021.

The Moratorium excludes any private Farm not only from sourcing from AirBnb/VRBO tourism revenue, but also halting any building permits, Special Use Permits as well as precluding appeals to the Zone Board of Appeals {ZBA} in relation to the Moratorium.

This action is in direct contradiction of AirBnB /VRBO tourism and tax revenue expectations of Monroe County and New York State. In 2018 Monroe County collected $8.7 million in occupancy tax. This tax supports local jobs, agencies, associations and services that promote or enhance our county.
