Support The Strikes At Imperial College London
The Issue
Request financial compensation due to strike action here.
As students of Imperial College London, we stand in solidarity with our lecturers, researchers and other staff members who have taken the difficult decision to go on strike to fight for fair pay and better working conditions.
- Staff at Imperial have experienced a 9% real-terms pay cut since 2018, yet Imperial has £2 billion in net assets and generating £81 million cash flow from operations last year.
- Workloads have intensified as the students-to-staff ratio has increased by 13.5% on average over the past decade.
- Annual leave lags behind that offered at many other universities.
Yet management refuses to negotiate and has imposed a 2% pay increase which falls far below inflation. Misleading figures were also used to set the pay award benchmark.
These issues inevitably damage our student experience, as stressed and underpaid staff cannot deliver the best education possible. Staff keeps the university running; without them, it simply would not function. They deserve fair pay and fair working conditions.
The ongoing industrial action at Imperial College is a critical issue that affects not only the academic community but also the future standards of higher education in the UK.
Tell management to return immediately to negotiations with the Joint Trade Unions with a significantly improved pay offer: restore real-terms pay to 2018 levels with a lump sum payment, align annual leave in line with other universities, provide 2 weeks paid carers' leave and establish a working group on moving to a 4-day working week. Details here.
Students and staff must stand together to defend our education and the future of the university. Show your support to staff by joining their daily rally at 11am.
Students and staff make up the university, not management.
