Support The Shuck Truck: Keep Us on Locke Street

Support The Shuck Truck: Keep Us on Locke Street
The Issue
For more than five years, The Shuck Truck has been proud to call Locke Street home. We’re a small, local food truck serving fresh Canadian seafood — oysters, fish, and hospitality — to the people of Hamilton. We’ve built this business from the ground up, committed to doing things the right way: staying licensed, staying inspected, and staying true to our community.
And yet, despite all of that, our place on Locke Street is under threat.
A small group within the local Business Improvement Area — or BIA — has filed repeated complaints against our presence. Not because we’ve broken any laws, but because they’ve adopted an internal “no food truck” policy that isn’t supported by any City by-law or enforceable regulation.
Let me be clear:
We are fully licensed by the City of Hamilton.
We pass every health inspection.
And we operate with professionalism, integrity, and a whole lot of heart.
But even when you do everything right, sometimes you still find yourself having to defend your right to exist. So we’ve asked to appear before a City Hall committee on June 17th — not just to defend our food truck, but to stand up for fairness, transparency, and the kind of local business community that includes everyone.
Because here's the truth: BIAs were created to help small businesses succeed, not to gatekeep or dictate who belongs. When a few voices are allowed to repeatedly disrupt a compliant, community-supported business, that’s not just unfair — it’s unproductive.
So we're asking you to stand with us. Sign this petition to show that Hamilton supports small, hard-working businesses that follow the rules and bring something real to their neighbourhood.
This isn’t just about The Shuck Truck. It’s about the kind of city we want to be — one that lifts people up, rather than pushing them out.
Thank you for your support. We’re proud to serve you, and with your help, we hope to keep doing so for many years to come.
