Support the Shelter at 66 Third Street: Compassion and Community in Action
The Issue
As residents of Toronto, we have a shared responsibility to support all members of our community, especially the most vulnerable. The proposed shelter at 66 Third Street is an opportunity to take meaningful action to address homelessness, provide essential resources, and create pathways for individuals to regain stability and independence.
Why This Shelter Matters:
Addressing Urgent Needs:
Toronto faces a homelessness crisis. As of 2023, more than 10,000 individuals in the city were experiencing homelessness on any given night. This shelter will serve approximately 80 people, providing a lifeline in their time of need.

This shelter will include critical services such as meals, case management, mental health support, and job training, all of which are proven to empower individuals to rebuild their lives.

Integrating Compassionately into the Community:
The location was chosen based on its accessibility to transit, healthcare, and other essential services, aligning with Toronto’s 10-year Homelessness Services Capital Infrastructure Strategy.
Community Engagement as a Priority:
The City of Toronto has committed to extensive community engagement for the proposed shelter at 66 Third Street. Public Progress, a Community Engagement Facilitator, has been hired to ensure meaningful consultation with residents and businesses. The engagement process includes town hall meetings, information sessions, and opportunities for feedback to address concerns and promote collaboration.
