Some citizens of Botetourt County are asking the Board of Supervisors to remove books they oppose from the county's public libraries.   The books in question are intended for parents to read with their children when talking about sexuality including LGBTQ.   Some people would find these books useful and appropriate, while other people might find them inappropriate for their families.   As with all library books, the user makes a choice as to which books to read.  Parents are trusted to help their children with selection of materials and to choose items that mesh with their own beliefs or values.  

What is at stake is the right of library patrons to have access to books of all types and to choose for themselves the books that they or their families may read.  As Americans, we value the right to make choices for ourselves without other individuals or groups interfering with that right.

Signing this petition is a way that you can signal your support of the Botetourt County Library to the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors.  If a few citizens or groups are allowed to succeed in removing one book from the library, it will then become much easier for others to be removed.  We do not want the library to be "sanitized" by any person or group.  We must stand firm against censorship!
