Support the proposed Great Forest National Park!

The issue

Hi, my name is Georgia. I’m a year 7 student from Victoria. I am passionate about protecting our beautiful Victorian forests in the central highlands of Victoria. I am starting this petition to show the Victorian government just how much Victorians are in favour of creating the Great Forest National Park.

The Great Forest National Park is a proposal to add a new 355,000 hectares of protected forests to the existing 170,000 hectares of parks protected in the central highlands of Victoria. The area extends between Kinglake National Park (west) and Baw Baw National Park (east), Lake Eildon National Park (north) and Bunyip National Park (south). It would include existing State Parks such as Cathedral Ranges State Park and Toolangi State Park.

The central highlands region of Victoria needs to be protected for future generations. The region is home to the critically endangered Leadbeater's Possum; old growth Mountain Ash forests, the most carbon dense forests in the world; and supplies most of the drinking water for the city of Melbourne. The Great Forest National Park, so close to Melbourne, would provide city people with much needed respite from the hectic pace of city life. The park will host a range of activities such as bike riding, bushwalking, fishing, bird watching, four-wheel driving, motor biking, camping, zipline tours and much more.

Now is the time to act and protect this wonderful place.  As Dr Suess’ Lorax says, “unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not"

Let’s all show the Victorian government that we care a whole awful lot! Please sign my petition to show your support in creating the Great Forest National Park!
