Support the Port Fairy Play Space in Russell Clark Reserve

The issue

Port Fairy children and young people have not had a suitable play space for the last few years. The redevelopment of the Martins Point Playground was underwhelming and the local skatepark has just been demolished.

Moyne Shire Council have been proactive throughout 2023 by implementing a Play Space Strategy. This has propelled this project through site evaluation, concept designs and community consultation. After an external analysis, Russell Clark Reserve was determined the most suitable after reviewing criteria such as environmental impact, existing amenities, physical attributes of sites, access and connections, visibility and natural surveillance as well as disruption or negative impacts on adjoining land and activity, just to name a few.

Since announcing Russell Clark Reserve as the approved site, local community members have opposed and rallied against the location, citing it will impact the natural environment and neighbouring properties too greatly. But what about our children and young people? They have been impacted far more over the last 5 years by not having a facility suitable to promote socialisation, positive risk-taking, development through play and enhancing everyday opportunities to learn new skills.

This is the time to act. We need your support to ensure our Council and Councillors know more people are supporting this project and approved site than those opposing it. Please take action!
