Dear Neighbor,

My name is Aimee Kemp and I love living in the Village of Williston Park at 179 Center St. My husband, son, and I have poured our hearts into transforming part of our traditional front lawn into a pollinator garden full of plants that are native to Long Island. Not only does this garden beautify our space, but it also supports local ecosystems by providing habitat and food for pollinators like bees and butterflies. In addition, it also helps provide food for people. Did you know that attracting more pollinators can help increase harvest for fruit and vegetable garden enthusiasts? 

Despite our hard work and dedication to promoting sustainability and biodiversity, the Village of Williston Park is currently demanding that we revert our pollinator garden to a traditional lawn. While a pollinator garden is not the norm, we, as property owners, should be able to maintain our autonomy with the yard we have chosen to design, whether a traditional lawn or pollinator garden. Let's work together to create a greener, healthier community. Our efforts can improve biodiversity, support pollinator populations, provide cleaner water, reduce flooding, reduce water use, lower the cost of maintenance, and improve human health by not using pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Please sign this petition to support a fellow neighbor by protecting our pollinator garden and showing the Village that we want to unite to make a more eco-friendly and resilient community.

I am a resident of the Village of Williston Park, general Long Island, or the surrounding area. I write to express my support for the small pollinator garden installed in the front yard at 179 Center St. This garden does not pose any health or safety hazard. It is not an eyesore. Just the opposite. In the spring, its beautiful native plants blossom and attract beneficial pollinators. As a resident of Williston Park, general Long Island, or the surrounding area, I appreciate the aesthetic and ecological benefits it provides to our entire community. I am signing this petition in support of my neighbors' right to continue caring for this local gem.
