Support the Operation of the Sauna Collective Mobile Sauna at Hibiscus Coast Beaches.
The issue
My name is Cameron MacKinnon. My family and I live on Deep Creek Rd, Torbay. I am the owner and operator of Auckland's first Mobile Sauna, Sauna Collective and is uniquely currently the worlds largest. After breaking my neck 20 years ago i became incredibly passionate about health and wellbeing and have personally experienced the transformative power of sauna use. It has become an integral part of my wellness journey. I 100% believe it can benefit our entire community here on the Hibiscus Coast and the wider Auckland community. What i have learnt is in many European and Asian countries they deeply understand that the benefits of Sauna extend well beyond physical health, longevity, and athletic recovery; saunas historically provide a space for unique social interaction and connection, contributing to higher levels of overall mental and emotional wellbeing. Simply put, they are an easily accessible tool to help you feel good regardless of your age, economic position, or level of fitness and mobility.
Did you know that just one sauna session per week can reduce your risk of all-cause mortality by up to 16%, and 4-7 sessions per week can reduce all-cause mortality by nearly 40%? Its positive effects on sleep quality, pain reduction, inflammation & sport recovery are just the tip of the iceberg of health benefits it can provide.
Now, despite these benefits and the overall net value to our community, our local board has understandable concerns about the use of multiple car parks that are taken up when the Sauna Station is parked at a local beach reserve car park. This is why I need your help to demonstrate that you are happy and supportive of the use of multiple car parks at our local beach or reserve for the operation of my Sauna Station because the total value and benefit to our community exceeds the benefit of four car parks.
What does using four car parks in a beach reserve car park mean? This would mean the use of up to four car parks in a beach reserve car park for one morning, entire day, or evening per week from the beginning of February to the end of November. For example, a schedule for the North Shore could look like this:
Tuesday @ Milford Beach 3pm-9pm
Wednesday @ Browns Bay Beach 3pm-9pm
Thursday @ Takapuna Boat Ramp or Narrow Neck 3pm-9pm
Saturday @ Orewa Beach 7am-6pm
Sunday @ Waiake Beach 7am-6pm
This means the car park use is only for one time slot per week at each location.
Other locations could include Rothesay Bay, Mairangi Beach, Red Beach, Big Manly, etc.
(Note: The reason for not wanting to be on the grass in the reserves is because in the wet months of the year i don't want to damage the parks in anyway with the trailer..if you know what i mean)
I will be holding deputations with the local Hibiscus Coast & Bays Local Board on Tuesday the 13th of February at 10am in Browns Bay if you would like to attend to show support. This would be incredible.
By allowing this mobile sauna operation from various beaches within our area, we are not only promoting physical and emotional well-being, but I believe we are also fostering a sense of community among residents of all backgrounds , and we can help create a new way of utilizing our beautiful beaches during the colder months.
Thank you for signing this petition of support and helping me to positively impact the health of our community, support my family business, and provide our local board with the information/data they need to make a more informed decision regarding what is more important to our community: the physical, mental, and emotional health of our community or a few car parks for a small amount of hours per week.
Thank You and have a fantastic day, Cameron @ Sauna Collective
