Over the past ten years, I have observed the inequities that exist in our "forgotten far East Dallas" area and it is time for change. Join me in supporting opening a small community charter school utilizing the museum school model.
Not only is our school model innovative to Dallas, but to Texas as well, as we will be the first official K-8th grade museum school in the state of Texas.
Help us provide an opportunity for this historically forgotten area, and give our families a top-tier choice, where they no longer have to drive far for high-quality school options or try to pay for private school; rather, they can engage with their neighbors and build community around the corner from their homes, and build a life changing community, making far East Dallas no longer forgotten, but a flourishing community of Dallas.
Our Work So Far...
Engaged in community co-design process since Summer 2023 with robust strategic plan to build a school WITH the community, FOR the community
•Built a community co-design team with monthly events, weekly touch points, and volunteering
•Attended and volunteered at over 50 community events as a participant, listener, or tabling
•Collected over 400 responses to date on our community survey
•Hosted 5 community focus groups with diverse group of community stakeholders
•One-on-one meetings with over 150 neighbors
•Hosted Town Hall gaining confirmation of proposed school model & securing our official school name
The Museum School Innovative Teaching Model: Partnering with museums and other institutions to give students real-life experiences with classroom lessons, allowing them to explore and make discoveries driven by curiosity, examine lesson themes from all angles and create museum-style exhibits to demonstrate what they have learned with a focus on true understanding.
TMS has also adopted an extended school day model to maximize learning opportunities, address academic gaps, and provide enrichment experiences that support the whole child. With a structured schedule that prioritizes core academics in the morning, students benefit from optimal cognitive performance while reserving the afternoon for personalized learning, intervention, and enrichment activities led by community partners. This extended schedule not only enhances academic achievement but also offers students access to a diverse range of programs, including STEM, fine arts, and physical education, ensuring a well-rounded education. The model is designed to accommodate working families, providing a high-quality, free alternative to after-school care while ensuring that students remain engaged in meaningful learning experiences. By integrating professional development and planning time for teachers within the school day, TMS will also attract high-performing educators looking for a more flexible school day schedule. This innovative approach ensures that students receive the support, exposure, and resources necessary to thrive academically and socially equipping them with the skills and confidence to succeed in their future endeavors.
