Construct a new railway line from Avadi to Tambaram via Maduravoyal, Porur to bypass Chennai traffic:

• Chennai, the bustling capital of Tamil Nadu, is one of India’s fastest-growing metropolitan cities. It is a major hub for commerce, education, industry, healthcare, and culture.
• With rapid urban expansion and increasing population, Chennai’s traffic congestion and long travel times are getting worse every year.
• Thus, the need for efficient and direct transportation across the city has become more important than ever.
• We request the development of a new Avadi–Tambaram railway line passing through key areas:  Avadi Railway Station, Paruthipattu, Koladi, Ayanambakkam, Vaanagaram, Maduravoyal, Porur, Mugalivakkam, Gerugambakkam, Kolapakkam, Tharapakkam, Pozhichalur, Anakaputhur, Pammal, Thiruneermalai, Tambaram Sanatorium, and Tambaram Railway Station
• This proposed new railway line can transform connectivity in our city.

Benefits of this new line:

1. 🚄 Reduces travel time between Avadi and Tambaram, and between North-South and East-West corridors of Chennai.
2. 🚆 Improves south–west city connectivity without depending on congested road routes.
3. 🚉🚗 Decongest existing roads and railway lines, so less road congestion, fewer traffic jams.
4. 🌱 Lower pollution due to reduced private vehicle usage and increased public transportation usage.
5. 💼 Better access to jobs, education, and healthcare along the route.
6. 📈 Support economic growth along the corridor.
7. 🚆 Operate direct express and superfast express trains from Tambaram to India’s North West regions (Bengaluru, Mysore, Mangaluru, Goa, Pune, Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Jaipur), North regions (Tirupati, Kadapa, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Agra, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Noida, Varanasi, Lucknow, Patna), and North East regions (Nellore, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Dibrugarh), bypassing and decongesting Chennai Central.
8. 🚆 Operate direct express and superfast express trains from Avadi to India’s South regions (Villupuram, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari), South East regions (Puducherry, Karaikkal, Velankanni, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Karaikkudi, Rameswaram, Thoothukudi, Tiruchendur), and South West regions (Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Hosur, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Theni, Bodinayakkanur, Tenkasi, Sengottai), bypassing and decongesting Chennai Egmore.
9. 🚂 Operate goods trains (freight trains) between Tambaram and Avadi, bypassing Chennai to deliver goods throughout India.
10. 🚉 Operate EMU trains between West Chennai regions (Tiruttani, Arakkonam, Tiruvallur, Pattabiram Military Siding E-Depot) and South Chennai regions (Kilambakkam New Bus Stand, Guduvanchery, Singaperumal Kovil, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram) via Avadi and Tambaram, bypassing and decongesting Chennai Central Suburban and Chennai Beach.

Strategic Station Planning & Multimodal Integration

To construct Porur Railway Station at Porur Junction

1. Propose an Arcot Road underpass below the new Avadi–Tambaram railway line (ground level) with a ballastless deck for smooth, high-speed trains.
2. Modify the MGR flyover central spans in Mount Poonamallee Road by partial demolition and rebuild of central spans to ensure double-decker train clearance while retaining existing traffic flow.
3. Proposed Porur Railway Station to be located near proposed Porur Bus Stand, upcoming Porur Junction Metro Station, existing Porur bus stop at Arcot Road, existing Porur bus stop at Mount Poonamallee Road and existing Porur Tollgate Bus Stop on Chennai Bypass Road, with a skywalk ensuring safe, direct, and weather-protected pedestrian connectivity between all modes for seamless multi-modal transport.
