Support the Motion to Make the Community Capacity Building Fund Permanent
The Issue
As active members of the Nigerians in the Region of Waterloo (NIROW), we have witnessed first-hand the transformative power of funding for community programs. Our success in supporting newcomer settlement, capacity building, and upstream initiatives has been possible due to the financial support we have received. However, our ability to continue making a meaningful impact on our community is at risk without secure funding.
We are therefore advocating for the inclusion of an annual Community Capacity Building Fund in the Region of Waterloo Municipality's 2024 budget. This fund would provide much-needed support to programs that foster growth and development within our community.
The Region of Waterloo has seen significant population growth over recent years, with Statistics Canada reporting a 2021 Census population of 587,165 residents. With this growth comes increased demand for services that empower local organizations and individuals to enhance their skills, expand their networks, and contribute meaningfully to the collective well-being of the Region of Waterloo.
By establishing a Community Capacity Building Fund as part of its annual budget, the Region can ensure that organizations like NIROW, with over 2000 members and various capacity-building programs, can continue their vital work. We urge you to endorse this proposed motion and help us maintain our momentum toward creating a more inclusive and supportive community for all residents.
