The Issue

Alverthorpe Working Men's Club has stood as a cornerstone of our community for many years. Our club is more than just a venue; it's where new friendships are made, old friendships are maintained, laughter echoes and our community gather in familiar comfort, reducing social isolation. The club's survival is critical, not only as a historical institution but also as an active venue, contributing to the local economy. The club, providing not just entertainment, has also played host to numerous events, sports teams, local groups and a venue used for private and shared celebrations, injecting life into our community. Lets not also forget, being a local employer.

Due to issues inherited from the previous administration, the only way to prevent the closure of this community heartbeat,  is to make the transition from a Club License to a Premises License.   By doing so,  the club can continue to host events and serve the community. We can ensure its financial viability and continued contribution to Alverthorpe's social framework.

Only one objection has been submitted, which is focused around untrue statements. The objection implies,  that currently,  children are only allowed on the premises until 9pm, which is completely untrue. For decades, supervised children have been allowed on the premises until closing time and this will continue to be the case, providing the change to the license is supported and upheld without restrictions. Continuing to allow supervised children into the premises until closing time, to join their families in a warm, welcoming and safe environment, will continue to promote our inclusive ethos. Allowing families access together,  to the free entertainment is essential, particularly when modern times, force financial strain on families.

We call on the local council and licensing authorities to review and allow the license conversion. By doing so, you will preserve a key part of our local heritage and maintain a vital space for community interaction and cultural engagement.

Please may I ask you to take a moment to sign this petition, in support of the license conversion,  without time restrictions on family access.
