Support The Kota Alliance's Restoration Plans for Safety and Accessibility
The Issue
As a dedicated human rights advocate and a former Ob/Gyn doctor, I see, hear and understand the unique challenges faced by women, especially Black and Brown women in our local community. I am deeply committed to empowering all women, including those identifying as female, towards realizing their full potential. We know that when women thrive, families and societies do so as well.
In line with this mission, we are calling on residents to rally behind The Kota Alliance and its objective of refurbishing the building located at 43 St Nicholas Place, NY NY 10031. The organization is leading the charge on gender equality and women's empowerment, providing critical support to local women and gender minorities. We host vital art, health and wellness programs, and function as a beacon of hope for our community.
The proposed changes to the building include essential fire safety measures, such as an internal staircase to the roof and a bulkhead. This is required to bring the building up to code, due to the height of the building; but also critical for us to be able to offer child care during our events. The renovation plans also include efforts to increase the building's energy efficiency and ensure it's ADA compliant, making it a safe, accessible and resourceful hub for everyone. These modifications will be minimally visible from the street, maintaining the aesthetic charm of our community.
By signing this petition, you are manifesting commitment to women's rights, local empowerment and a safer, more inclusive and sustainable neighborhood. We urge you to put your name on this as a token of support for critical progressive change. This petition will be presented to our local community board 9 and the NYC Landmarks commission to obtain a building permit. Please sign and share this petition to help make our shared vision a reality.
