Parking downtown has become a significant problem and is hurting small businesses. In order for non tourist oriented businesses to compete with big box stores there must be reasonable parking options.  A 15 minute space located on the South side of Commercial St between 12th and 14th St would help small businesses such as Rusty Cup, Gezellig Seafoods and European Groceries, Gulley's Butcher, Downtown Frame Shop, Paramount Pharmacy, Northwest Lending Group, Made in Astoria, Purple Cow Toys and Vintage Hardware to succeed in business, as well as allow local residents the convenience of being able to come downtown to pick up necessities, run quick errands or purchase larger gift items without having to haul them many blocks in wet Northwest weather.  This particular area is especially difficult to park in due to its many residential apartments.  This spot would also be helpful to the apartment residents for unloading.  Without a 15 minute space these businesses are not convenient for the regular patronage that is needed to help them succeed. The spot has been approved by the city engineer, but it needs city council approval and installation. We the undersigned urge the city of Astoria to take action in the designation of this spot and the installation of the necessary signage.
