California’s deeply dysfunctional State Bar has announced the immediate departure of yet another senior trial counsel, Jayne Kim, effective May 5, 2016. In reality Kim appears to be just sliding over to a " consulting " gig at the Bar, perhaps to avoid scrutiny of the State Legislature and claims by her predecessor , Joe Dunn. Dunn has been fighting Kim and the Bar since his termination from the Bar, which Dunn claims was retaliatory. Dunn is now running for state office and has made his feelings about the corruption in the Bar clear. Ironically, mess of muddy corruption began when James Towery was forced to leave the Bar in 2011, the same year Kim arrived. Did Dunn and Kim have to pay the price for Towery's misdeeds? Ironically, as Towery was run out of the Bar on a rail, in an ethics and corruption scandal, he landed as a family law judge in Santa Clara County. Media investigators and public watchdog groups are currently investigating alleged dirty lawyers in Santa Clara County including; Brad Baugh , Heather Allan , Richard Roggia , Nat Hales and Valerie Houghton, all who have appeared before Judge James Towery. Houghton was indicted by Santa Clara’s district attorney two months ago, as several other “dirty” lawyers appear to have escaped State Bar scrutiny, where multiple complaints against these lawyers have been filed over the last several decades. A public watchdog group says it is taking on the job the Bar and California Judicial Performance Council refuses to do to protect litigants trapped in divorce and probate cases in Santa Clara County. California’s Judicial Code of Ethics requires judges to address attorney misconduct. In Santa Clara no judge appears to be addressing attorney misconduct of a select few , and as such it is out of control and now a matter of public interest. With James Towery in the mix, attorney misconduct discipline seems less likely. Court insiders and good lawyers, along with investigative reporters are putting a Spotlight in Santa Clara Family Courts, the mission is to do the job the State Bar clearly is incapable of doing, and protect the public.
