The Atlantic Monthly just published an article on the high rate of suicide in Palo Alto, particularly at Palo Alto High and Gunn. The reporter noted that the suicides of teens in Palo Alto was not connected to the typical profile of a suicidal youth , but were more a result of the high pressure Silicon Valley schools place on their students. We think the reporter left out the pressure these teens often face in high conflict family divorces and other matters.
John Q Public believes bad family courts , crooked therapists and children's lawyers have as much impact on the mental health of teens as parents who pressure for good grades.
We are seeing an alarming number of judges blindly order parents and teens to be subjected to supervised visits , recorded phone calls and therapy that can be more embarrassing and traumatic than helpful, especially for a teen grappling with divorcing parents.
When parents try to speak out to protect their children , they often suffer loss of custody, increased child support or other judicial retaliation, like was recently seen imposed by Judge Grilli in a Sunnyvale family court.
John and Jane Q Public are demanding that Santa Clara County monitor judges and restrict their ability to make expert and minor's counsel assignments to their buddies.
Our children should not be a currency for a billable hour , at the expense of their own mental health, or life.
