The Issue

What is a SEPAC?

A SEPAC is focused specifically on policy input, accountability, and advocacy. SEPACs are recognized as a national best practice and are already established in many districts across the country.

Why This Matters: Parents and caregivers of students with disabilities often navigate complex systems, advocate for services, and identify patterns of concern that may not be visible at the administrative level. A SEPAC gives families a seat at the table, ensuring that the district’s special education practices are informed by those with lived experience.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Katonah-Lewisboro Union Free School District Board of Education formally establish a Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC).

This committee should:

-Be parent-led and independent, with open membership for families of students with IEPs or 504 Plans

-Include collaboration with the district and potentially a liaison from SEPTO, but remain distinct in leadership and purpose -Provide regular, structured input to the district on special education programs and family engagement

-Promote transparency and foster constructive, solutions-oriented dialogue between families and school leadership By signing this petition, you are supporting a stronger, more inclusive, and more accountable approach to special education in our district—one that values the voices of families and puts our students first.
